It’s a known fact that the original 1982 Blade Runner movie is one of the all time sci-fi classics. And Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 – starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford – is not too far behind. Criminally underrated, BR 2049 is slow but profound; long for sure, but atmospheric and pretty much every scene is gorgeous to look at. Add to that Ford’s terrific dark performance as an aging Decker, and this 2017 sequel is not to be missed by fans of the genre or the original movie.
With this portrait I tried to convey the atmosphere of the last scene, as both characters face their destiny under the falling snow while the beautiful Tears in the Rain (an homage to Vangelis’s original song) plays on.
